Club Overview

Club Information

The Somerset County 4-H R/C Car Club was started around 1986.  The first 4-H Fair in which the club participated was 1986.  It was started by a young man who had a love for the hobby and wanted to share it with others.  For the first 2 years of the club, there was no track and the go kart track was used.  For the 1988 4-H Fair, in order to finally have a track, a Jeep was brought in and driven in a circle to wear a groove in the dirt.  The next year weedwackers were used.  The Jeep was then used for a drivers stand.  The tent for the club was shared with at least 5 other clubs.

Many years later and increases in club members (currently around 30) as well as club funds and technology, the track is cut using a farm tractor and rototiller, there is a wooden professionally built driver stand, and the club now has it's own tent.  This was achieved through the passion that the members and leaders have and the desire to share it with others.

Currently we meet in the 4-H Center Gym on the First and Third Tuesdays of the month.  We have 4 categories of cars and trucks and run races each meeting.
